"Most of the health and environmental risks of GMOs are ignored by governments' superficial regulations and safety assessments. The reason for this tragedy is largely political. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), for example, doesn't require a single safety study, does not mandate labeling of GMOs, and allows companies to put their GM foods onto the market without even notifying the agency"
First of all, you can't type. Also if we did not have GMOs, than how would we sustain the population of 7 billion and growing? Do you eat GMOs or are you a hypocrite?
we don't need GMO's because we are already overpopulated so the use of them would cause the world to reach Malthus' point of crisis so the use of them are unnecessary but these population checks are.
If you believe in Malthus, but GMOs support Bosserup. You have to develop new food supply methods or starvation could be worse in LDCs and cross into the MDCs due to the lack of farms in these countries.
we don't have to develop new food supplies we need checks and some people in LDC's will survive by the practice of subsistence farming because they have more than enough natural resources to support themselves
Are you planning on moving to Africa? I prefer to have GMOed food that fight Boka Haram!!!! We have very few sustainable farms in the US and would not be able to support our 350 million population. You move and join a terrorist group and I will eat my GMOed vegetables and fruit in the peaceful USA!
You think that the United States is peaceful we have the top incarceration rate. Also i have been to a third world country and they live in a tight knit society and are more than capable of producing natural food. Africa is no different they have the means and the labor to support themselves.
We have the highest incarceration rate because we keep our prisoners in a system where they have rights like to a jury and a court of law. We do not practice Sharia Law or hang or behead. Third world countries are poor for a reason! They are subsistant farmers for a reason! If we go back to organic farming than we would be going backward in the DTM and that is impossible! Your argument is without support!
Maybe we give them to many rights and freedoms which gives them the chance to be reckless without consequence. Also what countries are going to be the top dog when the U.S. and other core countries become morbidly obese. Let me give you a hint is the people who eat natural things that aren't completely filled with fat and other self-harming ingredients.
with GMO's you can produce more plants and animals at a faster rate so we will have more food to feed people all over the world... decreasing the rate of famine in the world.
People in LDCs do not live long enough to get your rat liver cancer. Your argument is pointless as you keep referring to rodent life. GMOed food is what every MDC is moving to as proof with India entering stage 3 of the DTM.
They are not sufficiently regulated it causes many diseases, because of the antibiotics that they give to all the animals, causing more diseases in the animals
22 children in India had died as a result of eating soy-based school lunches. The tainted lunches, which were loaded with genetically-modified (GM) soybeans and pesticide chemical residues, were given to the student victims as part of a U.K.-based government meal program similar to the one currently being implemented in the U.S. by Michelle Obama for American public schoolchildren.Could this kill the children of america to?
How do you figure that GMOs are unsafe? I mean they have been able to keep the population of the world and without them the population would begin to decline because there wouldn't be enough food for everyone.
"The study found severe liver and kidney damage as well as hormonal disturbances in rats fed with GM maize in conjunction with low levels of Roundup that were below those permitted in most drinking water across Europe. Results also indicated high rates of large tumors and mortality in most treatment groups."
While we are certainly not rats, the high mortality rate among the rats fed GMO food is enough to warrant concern and further study.
We are rats? You have to remember that we have small traces of chemicals in everything from our environment to our food, but small amounts have proven to be harmless to humans. It may warrant concern, but does starvation warrant more?
By mixing genes from totally unrelated species, genetic engineering unleashes a host of unpredictable side effects. Moreover, irrespective of the type of genes that are inserted, the very process of creating a GM plant can result in massive collateral damage that produces new toxins, allergens, carcinogens, and nutritional deficiencies.
Toxicity is a huge issue surrounding chemical pesticides and herbicides, used commonly with GMOs, in addition to the toxicity is very hurtful to plants so this still ruins the plants.
Yes we are tampering with nature because we are putting different genes from other plants and animals that are not natural to that specific plant or animal.
I believe that GMOs should be banned, because they are not all natural. Of course I know that food is something everyone needs to stay alive, but I don't believe that we need to chemically alter food just for 1 simple reason. If we continue to alter our food, who knows what may happen next, for all we know these altered foods can one day be altered way too much to the point that it may start to affect our human systems.
If we don't use GMOs there will not be enough food to keep the population of earth. If we stop altering the food there wont be enough for everyone, and us humans will be able to find out ways to prevent diseases in food, we've done it in the past.
I understand that food is a big problem, but there are others way we can go about getting food to people. As you said they have done it in the past, why don't they do it again without all of this chemically altered trash!
GMOs have artificially manipulated genetic material. This means GMO'd organisms have genes that do not occur in nature or through any sort of crossbreeding. therefore people should not consume unnatural organisms without knowing the affects it has on a human body (including cancer).
GMO's are extremely dangerous to the consumer, the animals, and the environment. They increase the use of dangerous chemicals on the the environment, they can have negative side effects on the crops, and they're completely unhealthy. Not to mention that the animals are ill-treated and anyone who tries to find problems with GMO's are threatened.
GMO's should be banned because we do not know the long term effects of it. There have been studies done on GMO influenced food that has concluded that they are safe, but was conducted only by the companies who created them and have made profit from it. Also since 80% of all modified crops are herbicide resistant, the use of highly toxic pesticides and herbicides has increased significantly. The production of genetically modified plants and animals has also negatively influenced farmers. The companies who create GMOs have patents on them, and any farmer who has crops contaminated by them are sued, causing many farmers to go bankrupt and lose jobs.
How long can you live without eating processed food? If we can grow crops with greater vitamin intake, pest resistance, or any other beneficial quality than why should we not partake in our societal advancements?
How do you plan on doing it, Martha Stewart? We do not have any sustainable farms in the US anymore as the vast majority are corporate run entities. How do you plan on doing it?
GMOs should be banned. 70%-80% of our food in America are GMOs and the two main products in America that are, is corn and soy. And corn is in almost everything. GMOs can increase food allergies and cause autism, and digestive system problems. Even with these problems companies still think they shouldn't label food packages containing GMOs.
A GMO BANANA IN THE USA GOES BAD IN AT LEAST 5 DAYS BUT IN ANOTHER PLACE YOU EAT A REAL BANANA THAT HAS NEVER BEEN GMO IT CAN LAST AT LEAST 2 WEEKS AND ITS EVEN GREEN FOR A LONG TIME TOO UNLIKE OURS IS YELLOW
The only reason they're considered safe in other countries is because they actually have laws that limit GMO's. We don't have that in America, so companies can basically put whatever they want in our food without getting in trouble, which can have serious consequences.
GMO's can help people more than they harm them. so far there has been no signs of GMO,s harming peoples health. GMO's cause foods to be produced in a more abundant amount, causing it to be cheaper. GMO's cause food to taste better, stay fresh longer and can be resistant to insects.
Even though there have been no studies to prove that GMO causes health issues, there is also no way of telling the long term effects of these modifications. Also since the foods are insect resistant, the insects die off, affecting many areas of the food chain.
it does not taste better in any way...if you eat a real brown chicken egg or one from the store theres a huge difference and then you will know the difference in what taste better
Either way GMOed foods are going to be apart of our worlds culture because if we didn't have these foods are food supply may eventually out grow our population, as Malthus said.
There is always going to be GMOed in food. Like Malthus said there will be an increase in population but the food growth will not be as rapid. We in these years have had more food then we might have had if stuck to normal farming.
then everyone could actually be healthy and not everyone could have a cancer that they would have now but okay not everyone would be fed but still places in LDC dont have GMO foods but their still all eating
GMOed food is designed to look and taste better. And its not the fact of having more food to be dangerous its the GMOs in the food that make it dangerous.
There are other ways of increasing food production without using GMO's like aquaculture. Also, even though we use GMO's, the population will still continue to increase. So no matter how much we GM a food or animal, it will eventually stop being able to grow as rapid as the population
It is still unhealthy: "Numerous health problems increased after GMOs were introduced in 1996. The percentage of Americans with three or more chronic illnesses jumped from 7% to 13% in just 9 years; food allergies skyrocketed, and disorders such as autism, reproductive disorders, digestive problems, and others are on the rise."
If we are already overpopulated then we need GMOs even more then before. I may not agree with the ways they treat the animals but that can be fixed if we all try to find a solution.
GMOs should not be banned because with them in place people are able to get the amount of food that we want. Sure there not natural, but they also make it so everyone can get food and without them people could starve.
not all cancer you can live years fighting...most of the time your either suffering and going through pain with surgeries and on all this type of medication and making your life all over
People in Africa and other third world counties don't use GMOs and look at them.. they are starving to death. At least in other MDCs people are able to live without starving
People in those countries are not dying just because of lack of food, but mostly because of their lack of medical care. Plus, if they started to eat GMOed food that has been chemically altered a lot, how do you think it will affect their bodies since they have been eating completely 100% natural food?
But is the fact that they're starving the result of non-GMO food? Maybe perhaps oppressive governments who limit access to food, or maybe it's because they physically can't grow food because the climate does not permit it.
Gmo'ed food should be banned because it has been proven it is unsafe for example peas have been proven that genetically modified peas has caused damage to immune systems and it can lead to some serious allergic reactions.
But what will we do when our population has cancer because of all of the GMOs we consume. Although this adds to our food supply, we are supposed to modify our way of eating in a healthier way and we are headed in the wrong direction. We must alter how we eat today in order to sustain our population in the future.
